Dear Friends,

As residents, concerned citizens, and organizations of the University Area Community have worked together under the UACDC umbrella since 1998, we have come a long way on the path to realizing our dream of community revitalization and sustainability.

I am sincerely grateful to the many people, agencies, and businesses whose cooperative efforts have made this progress possible. And I’m so pleased each time I travel on North 22nd Street and see signs of our accomplishments:

  • Youngsters on the basketball courts at the Center Complex.
  • Streets that have been cleaned up and new sidewalks built.
  • Students learning at Muller Elementary and Bowers-Whitley Career High School.
  • Visitors at the Health Clinic seeking relief or illness prevention.
  • Parents at the Center Complex learning to speak English, earning their GED and developing their workforce skills while their children safely play and learn.

I invite you to see the UACDC in the same light that I do: A brilliant torch of opportunity, lit by many faces realizing their dreams and visions within our buildings. I invite you to meet our staff, learn their challenges and triumphs, and take a guided tour of the Complex where you will see the fruits of our collective labor.

But we still have work to do. There are dreams that are yet to be realized. We will continue to offer unparalleled live-work areas where affordability and economic success can go hand in hand. I invite you to see, for example, how we are working to:

  • Make home ownership more available throughout our community
  • Teach children to someday run successful businesses through the Junior Achievement Enterprise Village

As I look back on what we have accomplished since our early roots in the late 1980s, when the USF Area Communicty Civic Association, Inc. was formed, it is hard to believe how far we have come. Knowing what we have accomplished together, I have no doubt that the vitality of this community will continue to grow and our vision for a sustainable, safe and prosperous community will be fully realized.

Sincerely,

Senator Victor D. Crist
