The UACDC is proud of the many community partnerships that exist to serve the
University Area residents. Major programming partners include Hillsborough
County and the School District of Hillsborough County.
At the Community Center Complex, Hillsborough County
Parks, Recreation, and Conservation department offers after-school and summer
recreational activities to community children as well as operating the
Complex’s Fitness Center and University Park programs.
For four decades, Head
Start has been the most successful, longest-running national school readiness
program in the U.S. The
Head Start program provided at the Complex by Hillsborough County offers
comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement for
low-income children and their families. Additionally, Hillsborough County operates the University Area Health and Social Services Center
adjacent to the Community Center Complex.
Low- or no-cost classes and convenient class times are just a
few of the many advantages of the Adult Education courses offered by the School
District of Hillsborough County at the Complex. From literacy improvement
courses and Even Start to English as a Second Language (ESOL) to GED training
and testing, all courses are designed to help students on a path to
self-sufficiency.
In 2003 and 2004 the District opened two new schools adjacent
to the Complex. The
first, Muller Elementary, is the only dual-themed magnet school in the County
focused on environmental studies and the visual, performing and communication
arts. The second, Bowers Whitley Career Center School, offers an exciting
curriculum, a “learn-by-doing” environment, where students are able to
concentrate solely on life skills training in programs, including Culinary
Arts, Nursing Assistance, Automotive Technology, and Marketing.
